PEACE STEWARDS |
---|
Peace Stewards are independent members of the public willing to help deal with difficulties that arise at events, by mediating between both parties. They do not take sides and do not issue or receive, any orders. The Stonehenge Peace Process is once again registering and organising a camp just before the Solstice for independent voluntary Peace Stewards. These are members of the public who are willing to help at the Summer Solstice event at Stonehenge, night and morning June 20th-21st, 2004. You will first need to sign a waiver form, that says you act at your own initiative, and are acting at your own risk. It ensures your independence, that is nobody can tell you what to do! Also it lets us register and assist you without having to take out expensive insurance arrangements, which we could not do. If you think you need insurance, you need to arrange this yourself! It is considered that the duties of a Peace Steward are consistent with the conscience of one who takes on the task under guidance of God/Goddess or whatever Great Spirit. Having said that, you do not have to be religious to do it! You are not required to follow the specific instructions of any human agencies, although the path of harmony may often be that you will choose to do so. You are not police or security guards and you will never issue any orders, nor can anyone issue you with orders. You can inform those attending of the regulations and how they are being enforced. You can help prevent, defuse and resolve conflicts. You can keep up liaison between people and the authorities. You can see that rubbish is safely disposed of. These are merely suggestions. We will organise some Peace Training at the camp and pass on to you any briefing details from the organisers of the event. Please go to the Waiver Form and send it to the Secretary, Nora Morris, Tamarisk, Redenham, Andover SP11 9AX. Contact 0845-4589599 (local rate, there is an answer machine.) Christine Hosen is the email contact at CHosen@cricklade.ac.uk If you are an experienced peace steward because you have (a) done it with us before or (b) done it at other events, you might think of recruiting a small team of say, five people, to come with you. Each member gets a homemade badge with their name and a Dove rising from the Stones. For updates keep logged on to Solstice 2004 and related pages. The camping arrangements will not be published however. They are only for registered stewards. . |
